The motion

In view of his failures to enforce the 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act, this Annual General Meeting of CILIP has no confidence in Ed Vaizey, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, and instructs Council to work with all other interested parties to protect library, information and knowledge services

Proposed: Jo Richardson
Seconded: Tom Roper

  1. Thank you very much for doing this, you are giving us library users a voice as the DCMS and Vaizey have done nothing but ignore us for the last few years while the public library service has suffered massive unnecessary cuts. I hope your professional colleagues will give you their full support and I hope the leadership in CILIP don’t launch a quiet lobbying campaign against the motion and allow members to make up their own minds and give voice to their concerns. Vaizey has to be held to account for his inaction and failure to enforce the museums and libraries act.
